Robert Smith Takes a Stand Against Ticket Touts and High Fees: The Cure Cancels 7,000 Tickets for North American Tour

Robert Smith 2005 (prior to Ticketmaster rivalry) - Tom Sheehan

In an effort to combat ticket touts, The Cure's frontman Robert Smith has cancelled 7,000 tickets found on secondary resale websites for their upcoming North American tour. Smith opted out of Ticketmaster's "platinum" and "dynamically priced" ticket options during the on-sale process and restricted ticket transfers in markets where it was legally allowed, such as New York, Illinois, and Colorado.

He warned ticket buyers against attempting to circumvent ticket transfer rules, stating that tickets obtained through such means will be cancelled and original fees will not be refunded.

The move comes after Smith criticised Ticketmaster's "unduly high" service fees for tickets to the band's tour and convinced the company to issue small refunds to verified ticket buyers.

Despite my efforts to reach out to Robert Smith about a potential Australian tour, I have yet to receive a response. In the hopes of finding a more effective means of communication, I will attempt to convey my message in a language that may better resonate with him:

WE, YOUR FANS IN AUSTRALIA, MISS YOU DEARLY AND YEARN TO HEAR YOUR MUSIC LIVE ONCE AGAIN. ROBERT, WE IMPLORE YOU TO BRING YOUR TALENT TO OUR SHORES AND GRACE US WITH YOUR PRESENCE. WE WOULD BE THRILLED IF YOU DEDICATED AN ENTIRE OPENING ACT TO TICKETMASTER. #ShowsOfALostWorld23

The 30-date tour will begin on May 10 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans and end on July 1 at the Miami-Dade Arena in Florida.
