Indie rock band Hippo Campus has announced the upcoming release of their new EP 'Wasteland'. This exciting news comes on the heels of their album 'LP3' last year, which propelled them to new heights in the music industry. The band is now gearing up to headline some of their biggest live shows yet, including the prestigious Red Rocks venue this Spring.

The EP’s lead single “Kick In the Teeth” caught some fans by surprise with its use of folk & country songwriting techniques. The song's lyrics revolve around the confessions and desires of a lonely, hopeless romantic longing for a chance at love: “So when you go home, could you think about me? / I’m about as lonely as a cowboy can be / And a night without you is a kick in the teeth / So when you go home, could you think about me?”.

The song’s mellow feel is contrasted by the upbeatness of the following single  “Yippie Ki Yay”. The lyrics continue the cowboy motif, following an outlawed character on the run, riding through a wasteland. Suspense is built steadily throughout the song before exploding into a frenzy of guitars and drums, with lead singer Jake’s passionate vocals taking center stage. According to the band, the song “deals with “giddying up” in the sense that we gotta keep on keeping on despite not knowing what the fuck we’re doing a lot of the time”. Though Hippo Campus’ sound is continuously evolving, their incredible musicianship and relatable lyrics are always a constant.
